Important information for students

RMIT University does not inspect any of the share housing or vacant rental property listings on Housing for students at RMIT. You must make your own enquiries and satisfy yourself as to the integrity of the housing provider and whether the condition of the property is appropriate.

We strongly advise that you inspect properties prior to the payment of any monies or the signing of any tenancy documents.

International students under 18 years of age must obtain approval from International Services prior to arranging housing.

You are encouraged to obtain tenancy information from Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) by calling 1300 55 81 81 or visiting their website.

How to use Housing for students at RMIT – future students

Prospective RMIT students are welcome to browse the listings on Housing for students at RMIT. However, if you have not yet applied for a place at RMIT or you have not yet received an offer of a place in a RMIT program, you will not be able to register or view contact details of housing providers.

Housing for students at RMIT is best viewed in a modern standards compliance browser such as Firefox and Safari and is also compatible with Internet Explorer 8 and above.

Basic search

Share housing

To view listings for share housing near RMIT’s campuses you can use the ‘Search’ panel located at the top of the Housing for students at RMIT home page. You can display all available share housing near your chosen campus by simply selecting a ‘Campus’ from the drop-down list and then clicking on the ‘Search’ button. You can narrow your search by entering a maximum weekly rental amount (e.g. 150).

This will display all the vacant share housing that meets your search criteria. You can then sort the listings by Cheapest; Newest; or Closest to the campus you have entered. To view a listing in more detail, simply click on the link.

Vacant properties

To view listings for vacant properties near RMIT’s campuses you can use the ‘Search’ panel located at the top of  the Housing for students at RMIT home page. You can display all available vacant properties near your chosen campus by simply selecting ‘Property’ and a ‘Campus’ from the drop-down list and then clicking on the ‘Search’ button. You can narrow your search by entering a maximum weekly rental amount (e.g. 150).

This will display all the vacant properties that meet your search criteria. You can then sort the listings by Cheapest; Newest; or Closest to the campus you have entered. To view a listing in more detail, simply click on the link.

Share housing

To view listings for share housing near RMIT’s campuses select the ‘Rooms’ tab located at the top of the Housing for students at RMIT home page and then enter your desired search criteria as applicable:

  1. select a specific campus from the drop-down list (click on the arrow to display the available options: any; Brunswick; Bundoora; City; Hamilton; Point Cook). This field is mandatory.
  2. click on the ‘$’ box and enter your maximum weekly rental amount (e.g. 150). This field is optional.
  3. enter the maximum number of people you wish to share with - e.g. 2 (optional)
  4. click on the box of your preferred property type/s or leave all boxes blank if you don’t have a preference
  5. click on the box of your preferred room size/s (Small; Medium; Large) or leave all boxes blank if you don’t have a preference
  6. click on the ‘Suburb’ box and enter preferred suburb or leave blank if you don’t have a preference
  7. click on the ‘Number of bedrooms’ box and enter the number of bedrooms you are seeking (e.g. 1) or leave blank if you don’t have a preference
  8. click on the ‘Lease duration’ box and enter the minimum lease period – in months - you are seeking (e.g. 6) or leave blank if you don’t have a preference
  9. click on the ‘Bond amount’ box and enter the maximum bond amount you wish to pay (e.g. 600) or leave blank if you don’t have a preference
  10. click on any of the ‘other details’ you would like to search for (you can select multiple items in a category by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on each item you want (optional)
  11. when you have finished selecting all your search criteria, click on the ‘Find’ button

This will display all the advertised share housing that meets the search criteria you have entered. You can then sort the listings by Cheapest; Newest; or closest to the campus you have entered.

How to use Housing for students at RMIT – current students

If you are a current RMIT student - that is, you are currently enrolled at RMIT or you have received an offer of a place in a RMIT program and been provided with your RMIT student number and password - you can access Housing for students at RMIT via myRMIT.

Housing for students at RMIT is best viewed in a modern standards compliance browser such as Firefox and Safari and is also compatible with Internet Explorer 8 and above.

Register as a user

Before you can start searching on Housing for students at RMIT you must first register as a user.
To register:

  1. log in to myRMIT
  2. select the 'Search for housing' link
  3. on the ‘Register as a student’ page click on the ‘Name’ box and enter your full name
  4. click on the ‘Email address’ box and enter your email address
  5. select the ‘Terms and Conditions’ link to read the terms and conditions of use. You should read the terms and conditions carefully prior to submitting your registration as it provides important information about searching Housing for Students at RMIT
  6. if you have read, and agree to the Terms and Conditions, click on the checkbox to record your agreement
  7. if all your information is complete and correct select the ‘Register’ box

You are only required to register once – the first time you sign in to Housing for students at RMIT.

Sign in to Housing for students at RMIT

In order to sign in to Housing for students at RMIT you must have first registered as a user.

To sign in to Housing for students at RMIT you should:

  1. log in to myRMIT
  2. select the 'Search for housing' link
  3. click on the Housing for students at RMIT ‘Sign in now’ link

About your Dashboard

Once you have successfully registered as a user and every time you sign in to Housing for students at RMIT you will be taken to your Dashboard. From your Dashboard you can easily navigate around Housing for students at RMIT; search for housing and manage your shortlist.

Home tab

Clicking on the ‘Home' tab at the top of your Dashboard takes you back to the Housing for students at RMIT home page where you can read news and information; search for listings using the ‘Search panel’ on the top of the page; or return to your Dashboard (using the link provided).

Rooms tab

Clicking on the ‘Rooms tab’ at the top of your Dashboard takes you to the Find rooms in shared housing page where you can search for shared housing listings.

Properties tab

Clicking on the ‘Properties tab’ at the top of your Dashboard takes you to the Find properties to rent page where you can search for vacant property listings.

Campuses tab

Clicking on the ‘Campuses' tab at the top of your Dashboard takes you to a list of RMIT University Campuses: Brunswick, Bundoora, City, Hamilton and Point Cook. Clicking on a campus link will give you more information about that campus, including a map of the area. Clicking on the ‘Find listings near …’ link will display all the currently advertised listings near the campus you have selected.

Add a listing tab

This tab is used for providers to add a listing (not applicable to current students unless they also wish to register as a provider and advertise housing).

Additional information

The information on the right hand side of your Dashboard is displayed on every Housing for students at RMIT page. It provides:

  • a link to the RMIT Village website
  • a 'Tips for students' button (which provides you with information and tips on how to use Housing for students at RMIT – that is, where you are now)
  • a 'Tips for providers' button (which gives providers information and tips on how to use Housing for students at RMIT)
  • a 'Related links' section which includes:
    • a link to the Housing Advisory Service webpage
    • a link to useful Information for current students
    • a link to information about RMIT’s campuses
    • a link to 'Student feedback' (for students to provide feedback to the RMIT Housing Advisory Service)
    • a link to 'Provider feedback' (for providers to provide feedback to the RMIT Housing Advisory Service)

View your shortlist

You can quickly view your 'Shortlist' by clicking on the link.

Update your details

You can update your details (name and email address) by clicking on the link.

Please note that RMIT University does not store housing listings indefinitely. It is your responsibility to retain a hard copy of the listing should it be required in the future.

Your listing shortlist

If you like a listing you can ‘bookmark’ it by simply clicking on the ‘Add to shortlist’ button (located at the bottom of the displayed listing).

In order to add a listing to your shortlist, you must have registered as a user and be signed in to Housing for students at RMIT. If you are currently signed in, your email address will be displayed in the top right hand corner of the screen. If it isn’t displayed, simply sign in again…

To view your Shortlist, select the ‘View your shortlist’ link on your Dashboard. If you want to remove a listing from your Shortlist, simply select the ‘Remove’ button adjacent to the link for the listing to be deleted.

We would like to know what you think about Housing for students at RMIT. You can send feedback to Housing for students at RMIT Administration via the Student feedback link. If you are providing feedback on a particular listing, please remember to include the listing number and/or property address.

You may elect to remain anonymous or request that RMIT contact you about your feedback.

Sign out

To sign out of Housing for students at RMIT simply click on the ‘Sign out’ link on the top right-hand corner of the screen.

If you are using a public computer, please ensure that you log out of myRMIT and close your browser/s.
